Elounda
Elounda is situated on the stunningly beautiful Gulf of Mirabello, on the North-Eastern coast of Crete, just under an hour away from the international airport at Heraklion.
Elounda maintains it roots as picturesque fishing village. It is also an ideal destination for people who want a seaside holiday in a place which is neither too busy nor too isolated, with a spectacular coastline, fantastic beaches, crystal clear seas and places of historical interest, especially the captivating island of Spinalonga.
The earliest known settlement at Elounda was the ancient Greek City of Olous, which now sits under the sea and is still partly visible when diving in the bay. Nowadays, Elounda features possibly the most exclusive collection of five-star hotels in Greece, attracting Hollywood celebrities and VIPs from around the world.
The town is centred around a main square, which is a fantastic place for eating, drinking and people watching. The little fishing boats in the scenic harbour are not just for decoration, but in time-honoured fashion, bring in the day’s catch to supply the local restaurants and tavernas.
With its picture postcard beauty, vibrant atmosphere and fascinating history, it’s hardly surprising that Elounda attracts people from all over the world.
